DISCOVERERS DAY CAMP

Site: Camp Hiawatha
Ages: Completed grades K-5
Cost: $200 per session

A first taste of camp without spending the night. Discovers Day Camp runs from 8:30am - 4:00pm Monday - Thursday for campers looking to discover camp and parents looking for a safe and fun day camp option for summer child care.

Drop Off/Pick up happens directly at Camp Hiawatha or at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MN. VLM staff will be at St. Andrew’s daily for drop off/pick up and will provide transportation to and from camp.

Discovers Day Camp will run from June 23, 2025 - June 26, 2025 and June 30, 2025 - July 3, 2025. Campers register by individual week to attend the full week.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The best part of camp is getting to play outside, so weather permitting, Discoverers spend the bulk of the day outside playing games, enjoying the beach, eating picnic lunch, and participating in nature activities, arts & crafts, and bible study. Discovers Day Camp is a great way for younger campers to see and experience all that happens at camp, including interacting with other camp programs. The Discoverers schedule is intentionally designed for these first-time campers to experience camp at their own pace. It's also a great way for our staff to really get to know the participants and tailor the day to the needs of the group.

TYPICAL DAILY SCHEDULE

8:30 - Check-In

9:00 - Morning Movement

10:00 - Nature Activity

11:00 - Rubaboo (Bible Study)

12:00 - Lunch

12:30 - Rest Time

1:15 - Beach Time

2:45 - Snack

3:00 - Creative Arts

4:00 - Pick-UP

We designate cabins for the Discover program. Not only does this give campers a space for their personal belongings and changing into and out of swimming suits, but it also gives them a chance to have a place to rest and see where they might stay when they participate in an overnight program. If a cabin is not available, we designate space in another building for Discoverer belongings and use the Retreat Center bathrooms at Camp Hiawatha.

ABOUT ELEMENTARY CAMPS

Whether you are coming the day or an entire week, our programs provide elementary campers with a Christ-centered and fun camp experience. Campers will have a chance to meet new friends and grow in their faith as they enjoy time in God’s Great Northwoods!

Our Elementary programs start and end each day in prayer and worship. In between there is time for playing in the lake, games, creative arts, exploring nature and sharing with your cabin group. Not sure about camp? Try either our Discovers Day Camp or Venturers two-night camp. Can’t wait to experience all that camp has to offer? Join us for an entire week. Whatever your interest, we have something for you!

Other Elementary Programs

FLEX FAMILY CAMP

Voyageur Family Camp is spending time together in the beauty of the north woods. Each day includes opportunities for worship and Bible study, as well as swimming, canoeing, creating, games, and simply spending time together as a family. Our hope is that your family will be renewed in your time at camp – as you share meals, worship, play and grow in your faith together.

BWCAW Canoe Camp

BWCAW Canoe camp is the place to both learn the basics and build on your skills. Campers spend time each day canoeing, camping, and learning other outdoor education skills while immersed in the BWCAW. Campers (9 -11 gr) will head into the BWCAW for a 3-night canoe trip. This camp will also provide leadership / outdoor development, opportunities for spiritual growth and teamwork.

T1-D Connections Camp

A connection camp for youth with Type 1 Diabetes and their parents to fellowship together.

HOCKEY CAMP

(Ages 9-14) Hockey Camp is a Camp Hiawatha tradition. For 40 years, players and coaches have been gathering to combine their love of hockey with the faith foundation that makes them good team players both on and off the ice. While we take our hockey seriously, we also take learning and growing as a community seriously.

VOYAGEUR FAMILY CAMP

VENTURERS

(Completed grades 2–4) This two-night program is another great way to introduce your child to an overnight experience without committing to a full week of camp.

SEEKERS

(Completed grades 3–4) A week filled with the all the great things camp has to offer! New friendships are formed as campers play, sing, worship, and laugh together. It will be week of memories you won’t soon forget.

TREKKERS

(Completed grades 5-6) A balance of familiar camp activities combined with new opportunities are what the Trekker program is all about. Mixed in with favorite camp activities - swimming, games, crafts, canoeing, campfire – are faith conversation that go a bit deeper and more challenging cooking and camping skills are tried.

RENDEZVOUS

Rendezvous is a fun, Christ-centered camp experience for campers with intellectual/developmental disabilities. It is three days packed with everything camp has to offer – games, swimming, worship, campfire, Bible study, creative arts, and the chance to make new friends with our staff and fellow campers!
