NEWS
Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry is excited to once again gather in-person for our 2021 Annual Meeting on February 5, 2022 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Duluth. The meeting will start promptly at 11:00 AM for one hour. We invite all voting delegates to join us for a short and focused meeting to do the business of our ministry.
VLM is looking for a 30-40 hour a week Property Manager for Camp Hiawatha to be the steward, volunteer coordinator, and caretaker for the 85 acre property.
Be part of our guest experience team! Camp Hiawatha is hiring Cooks, Camp Hosts, and Housekeepers as we prepare for retreats and rentals on Deer Lake, near Deer River, MN.
Join us this fall and help us spruce up our sites before the winter season. There are indoor and outdoor tasks to be done. If you sponsor a building, bring a group and give your building some extra love this year.
Fall really is a beautiful time to be at camp! Retreats are a great way to unplug and reconnect with God, creation, and others. Year-round facilities are available at both camps, with options for being self-contained/doing your own meals or having camp do the cooking and dishes for you!
VLM is now hiring our 2021 summer staff! This is a great opportunity for spiritual growth, leadership development, learning life-long skills, and making long-lasting friendships in a caring faith community. It will be one of the toughest and more rewarding jobs you’ll ever have!
We look forward to seeing you at our annual Work Days at Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermilion! The help of our volunteers to get our sites ready for the summer camping season is a true blessing, and we missed seeing so many of you in 2020. Join us for hard work, good food, and physically distant fellowship!
Our camp staff have been working diligently since last spring to put Covid-19 protocols and procedures in place for the use of our camps. Whether you are considering renting our facility for a gathering, or interested in sending your child to camp, we feel confident that we can provide an environment that will help to minimize the spread of Covid-19.
Our 2020 Annual Meeting has gone virtual! We plan to gather on Zoom on Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 am to do the annual business of camp. Each of our member congregations has voice and vote, and visitors are also welcome to join us.
VLM has been blessed with two beautiful sites in Northern Minnesota - places where all can gather to reflect, renew, and be strengthened for life’s journey.
While we aren't able to welcome campers to our traditional summer programs, it isn't summer without people at camp. Our facilities at both Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermilion are available for family and small group rental opportunities! We already have some families taking advantage of this, and we would love the chance to welcome you to camp as well.
Be part of a life changing ministry! Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry is seeking an organized and outgoing manager to implement the head office functions of year-round non-profit. As one of the first voices who will welcome people into this ministry, the Office Manager in Duluth will play a key role in sharing the mission and vision of the organization. VLM operates residential youth programs, guided canoe trips, and year-round retreats based out of Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermilion.
The Kingdom of God is wild - a place of unrestrained and unbridled love for each of us. This summer we will dig into the parables of Jesus and learn about the constant, abundant, and never-ending love that God showers on us daily. By taking ourselves out of the story and focusing on God’s actions, we will discover the depth of God’s gift of WILD GRACE.
Now more than ever, families need to get away from home, turn off electronics, and disconnect from their routines. And in this era of Covid-19, families need to find a safe destination/activity with new and meaningful ways to connect with one another. A trip to the Boundary Waters provides a great destination full of new experiences. Let Voyageurs Canoe Country handle your food preparations, gear packing and logistics while your family discovers nature’s wonders and the rewarding experience of paddling in the BWCAW. Our trained guides will help you create a route and experience that will lead to meaningful conversations and great memories.
Join us each weekday for a short devotion to set a direction to your day. Mai - an object in nature, often a tree with lower branches removed, indicating a portage for early fur traders, which helped set their direction for their trip. At camp, Mai is a morning devotion that sets the direction for our day.
Though we really want to have campers in camp, we also see an opportunity this summer to accomplish some much needed work at our sites. We have projects for all ages and all skill levels, and would welcome your help in keeping our sites beautiful and welcoming to all.
Just because we can’t gather in person, doesn’t mean we should go a summer without Bluegrass music…or the Church Basket Challenge!
Looking for a break from school work or watching movies! Join our staff for a virtual Rubbaboo (VLM’s word for Bible Study).
Greetings from Grandma Peg, Before long, summer camp at VLM will begin for 2020! I’m looking forward to joining old friends and making new ones. One new food I will start with this summer is “BBQ Lasagna”. I've included the recipe. If you like sloppy Joes, you’ll enjoy this meal.
He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” -Luke 10-37. This is a short one, which is rare for me. I hope you can work it into your day...

“Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark. Begin at the beginning. Tell a story. Make some light.” ― Kate DiCamillo
As long as my wife, Cari, and I have been married, we have celebrated all twelve days of Christmas. Yes; all twelve, starting with Christmas Eve and going until January 5th. We have a decorated tree lit in our living room, and a Nativity that will not move until the Wise Men arrive with their gifts and the warning about Herod.
Join us on Saturday, February 1st for the Annual Meeting of the VLM corporation. For all member congregations, this is your time to hear what is happening at your camps, approve the 2020 operating budget, and help celebrate all that camp has done this last year. Your voice is needed!
Camper Rejuves are a great way to get back to camp during the school year, or to check out camp for the upcoming summer! You'll get your camp fix on this 23 hour overnight - games, campfire, songs, friends, learning, and of course, great camp food.
