Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry. We have many ways you can become involved in carrying out the mission of VLM’s camps.

Artists in Residence

Come spend a week (or a day or two) at Camp Hiawatha or Camp Vermilion and be an artist in residence. Depending on your interests and what you are willing to share with campers of all ages, VLM would develop a “studio” per se for you to spend time creating.

We ask that you participate in the community (meals, worship and such) and have a couple hours a day (whether that be during Bible Study time for the campers or their afternoon activities) where you would teach, share, and work with the campers. You would also have some personal time to work on projects.

Before coming to camp, please connect with the camp’s community director or music worship coordinator to design a plan for the week. During this time, the staff will share the summer theme, daily schedule and ideas of how to integrate the artist’s gifts into the schedule.

VLM has some resources, like a kiln and potter’s wheel. We also have a variety of arts and crafts supplies. Our summer schedule goes from June 20-August 13. Sign up for a week today!

Visiting Pastors

Calling all Youth Ministers, Lay Ministers and Ordained Pastors! Would you like to come volunteer at Camp Hiawatha or Camp Vermilion for a week this summer? VLM invites you to come and share your gifts and experiences with staff and campers!

As a camp pastor, you would be a resource for the staff for a week or part of a week. You may help out at a morning intro, where the theme is introduced each day, or at worship, campfire, during afternoon activities and Bible Study times. Sometimes we might ask you to serve communion.

Volunteers who will join the VLM summer community for a week will meet with the Community Director or the Music and Worship Coordinator at the beginning of the week to plan out his/her schedule. Work Days

Gather a group from your church, some friends and family, or come alone. Everyone can help set-up Camp Hiawatha and Camp Vermilion for the busy summer season ahead.
