Coaches

Coach Don Roberts: completed his 33rd season as the Gustavus Adolphus Hockey Coach in 1997.  During his time at Gustavus he compiled an impressive record in college hockey.  He was named the MIAC Coach of the Year in 1973, 1975, 1976, 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1997.  Don was named the NAIA Coach of the Year in 1975, AHCA Coach of the Year and Eddie Jeremiah Award winner in 1976, and John MacInnes Award winner in 1993.  Coach Roberts has been President of the AHCA and WIHA.  With 593 wins in his Gustavus coaching career, he was the sixth most-winning college hockey coach in the nation.  He has ranked first in Division 3 for college hockey.  Since 1966, Don has coached dozens of players who have earned all-MIAC honors, and who have been named NAIA and AHCA All-American.

Coach Don will be leading an excellent Staff of coaches during the Hockey Camp.  These coaches are current Gustavus coaches and former MIAC hockey players from Gustavus.  The former players are now successful in positions ranging from education to business to medicine to law. They love hockey and are excellent role models.  Some of these coaches coach their own children’s teams in their hometowns.

Mike Deschneau:  Begins his 5th year at Camp Hiawatha.  He is Gustavus’ Assistant Hockey & Football coach and he was the Assistant Girls Hockey Coach before moving to the men’s program.

Steve Howe:  a veteran Junior Varsity coach who has been instrumental in developing a successful program at Gustavus Adolphus.  A very successful coach with a lot of experience working with youth.

Additional coaches / players will be joining the coaching staff, such as Jim O’Neil,  Tim Roberts, Gustavus Swimming and Tennis Coach, Jon Carlson to name a few.
